Jayson's Impact As a Student
Jayson always had a strong appetite for learning, but didn't always apply himself in school. But now, whether it's macro-economics, social sciences, acrylic painting, or piano -- you will find him out of his cell and in the classroom improving himself or others. He says, "that's the only way to stay out of trouble in here!"
Throughout his incarceration, with many interruptions, he managed to complete over 59 courses of college and institutional study. The following are some of his certificates

In 1994, the year of Jayson's arrest, the Federal Bureau of Prisons removed college education for inmates through Pell Grants. But against the odds of transfers, outdated technology, lockdowns, prison culture, and daily disruptions, Jayson is a few classes away from finishing an Associates degree with certifications in Paralegal Studies and Advanced Paralegal Studies in Criminal Law (Completed May '21). As of 2023, he is taking classes with the Higher Education in Prison Program through the Andrew Young Center for Global Leadership and Morehouse College. Fortunately, federal prisons are re-opening opportunities for college education.
According to Jayson's most recent IRP (Individualized Reentry Plan) Program Review: "Inmate Berry completed (6) Release Preparation Programs. Good Job."
